Light Years Away

The light that's hitting Earth right now Left its star before I was born By the time it reached my eyes That star's already gone Everything I see is history Nothing's happening in real time The present is just photons traveling Through the fabric of spacetime Light years away from who I was Light years from who I'll be Living in the distance Between memory and what I see You're looking at a version of me That doesn't exist anymore By the time my words reach you I've already walked through different doors Maybe that's why we can't connect We're always seeing someone's past Two people separated by the speed At which information travels fast Light years away from who I was Light years from who I'll be Living in the distance Between memory and what I see If I could travel at the speed of light Would time stop moving for me? Would I catch up to the moment Where I'm actually free? Or would I find that present moment Doesn't really exist at all? Just infinite light years between us Forever in freefall Light years away from who I was Light years from who I'll be Living in the distance Between memory and what I see
