Calamity Candy

Malachite ambulance, bring me my head I left it applauding the moon in my bed The ceiling was sizzling, the saints were asleep And somebody’s shadow was counting my teeth O calamity candy O thunderhead dandy Come rattle my atoms again I’m velvet and vapor I’m newspaper paper I’m yesterday’s elegant sin A woman of wax with a sapphire disease Was teaching the wind how to crawl on its knees She handed me lemons that screamed when they peeled And said, “Every wound is a door badly sealed” O calamity candy O thunderhead dandy Come rattle my atoms again I’m velvet and vapor I’m newspaper paper I’m yesterday’s elegant sin Call me incorrect Call me divine Call me the wolf in the lemon-lime shrine I am the hiccup in heaven’s design I am the hymn with a worm in its spine
