The Waiting Room

Numbers on the ceiling tiles Counting down to zero hour Everyone just waits awhile For someone else to hold the power Magazines from years ago Tell us who we used to be But the faces in the photos Look like strangers now to me How long have we been sitting here? Who decides when it's our turn? All the questions disappear When there's nothing left to learn Fluorescent lights keep humming Like a mantra for the lost No one knows what they're becoming Or how much it's going to cost Reception desk with no one there Just a bell that doesn't ring We're suspended in the air Between nothing and everything How long have we been sitting here? Who decides when it's our turn? All the questions disappear When there's nothing left to learn Finally they call your name But you've forgotten who you are Nothing feels quite the same When you've traveled this far The door opens to another room With the same fluorescent glow Maybe this is all we do In the places no one knows
