The Sacred and Profane
About this album
Old Atoms' The Sacred and Profane moves through rituals that emerged from the contested ground between life and death. Trepanation explores the ancient practice of drilling into the skull to release spirits or demons believed to be trapped within. Grave Seller follows the shadow economy that grew around fresh bodies. Sin Eaters recalls those who consumed the transgressions of the dying so they could pass on clean. The Observers sits at the center like a witness to all of it, and Set in Stone bookends the album, the same words landing differently by the end. Fate completing its circle, the sacred and profane revealed as two sides of the same coin.
